Kiwi Kids News

Today I was reading a story on kiwi kids new about spiders being able to hear us humans speaking or making any noise.
This is strange because spiders do not have ears.
scientists were doing studies on where the sound goes and they found the jumping spider has hairs on its back legs that pick up noise.
The scientists did a distance check and clapped close to a jumping spider in the recording studio and then got further and further away until the scientist was out of the room which is 5 whole meters away from the spider and it still picked up the sound of the clap.

I found this article interesting because this discovery was found by accident! and the story hooked me into reading it.

Maths Hub Reflection

today in maths hub i was focusing on turning a division problem into a multiplication problem and then working out the problem backwards. I found this task quite easy because i know multiplication and division. here is an example of my working

when your sharing into sets you can change your division problem into something like multiplication problem.
(e.g 49 cans of fizzy drink have to go into 7 boxes that would be 7 divided by 49 equals what?
you could change that by going 7 times what equals 49
the answer is 7 times 7 equals 49
so 49 cans of fizzy drink in 7 boxes would be 7 cans a box. so 49 divided by 7 equals 7

Kiwi kids news

A diet of hot chips, coke, and little else nearly blinded Australian Cian Moore.
His mum, Kerry Moore, had tried ophthalmologists and pediatricians in an attempt to find the cause of her son’s increasing blindness.
Nobody had an answer.
Cian is now 16 and he is eating better food.
he has been taking medication and his right eye is nearly fully recovered but his left eye is permanently damaged.
And he`s started eating his vegetables!!

I found this artical interesting because i now know what is does to your eyesight if you eat to much unhealthy food and i hope people learn from this artical about eating healthy.

Improper fractions

Yesterday we were doing improper fractions and what they mean. I have learnt that a improper fraction is when the numerator is bigger than the denominator. (e.g 9/3 is an improper fraction because the numerator is bigger than the denominator.)
What really helped me in maths was working with a partner so I can discuss my learning with my partner. What also really helped me was having fraction pieces made out of paper which helped me make my mixed fractions.
here is an example of my learning

R.E reflection

In R.E this week we have been learning about the seven sacraments. The seven sacraments are
baptism, eucharist, confirmation, reconciliation, anointing of the sick, marriage, and holy orders.
In class we have been focusing on the two sacraments of healing they are, reconciliation, and anointing of the sick. We have been reading the bible to look at the stories on this one of them is, Jesus heals a deaf and mute man. I found this task quite easy because
at this school we believe in Jesus and his miracles.

Maths Reflection

In maths this week we have been mainly doing mental maths for our maths. I think mental maths is a great exercise for my brain because I learn something new each week in mental maths. The second reason I like doing mental maths is because it is never the same it is different every day. For example there are questions like will a circle tessellate the answer is no. The answer to this question is no because because a circle won't fit into another circle without having gaps. A shape that will tessellate is a square because squares can fit into each other without gaps. That is one of the many things I have learn in mental maths.

Writing/superhero writing

In writing recently we have been learning to describe our own made up superhero and describe their powers sidekick arch enemies and their alter ego. Here is a demonstration of my writing

                             Gerald The Gummy Bear

Gerald is a gummy bear who lives in a packet with his 103 other brothers, he is the youngest out of all of his brothers. But one day Gerald sees something amazing a hole in the packet! So he runs for the hole and jumps and lands in the bowl of salt, but he doesn't care he just keeps on running until he sees IT! Yes that's right it’s called IT. There was a label on the bottle that clearly said in bold letters DO NOT DRINK! But he drinks it anyway. Just then he comes across Bob the blob, a fat blue blob of jelly Who he was friends with before he got put in the packet.

But then Gerald feels odd and then his flimsy little muscles turn ginormous “wow!” said bob “you grew fast.” Then Bob sees a drop of IT that Gerald had dropped and he drank it and just got fatter and taller. Then Gerald says “Bob will you be my sidekick and help save the world” “yes!” says Bob. And that’s how Gerald the gummy bear and Bob the blob became super hero's.

The powers that Gerald the gummy bear, and Bob the blob have are amazing!
Gerald can copy any super power from a superhero or a villain.Gerald also has amazing X-Ray vision to see through anything when ever he wants.Gerald also has the power to turn invisible giving him the advantage to sneak up on his enemies. Gerald has one last power he can go through walls and doors when he needs to get out of an emergency.

Bob has the power to transform into any animal he wants, first he summons the animal he wants to turn into then he touches it and turns into it. Bob’s other power is breathing underwater for as long as he wants to, giving him the advantage to chase evil jellyfish without losing his breath. Bob's last power is water control he can control any water substance in the nearby area using it to form tsunamis that crush the enemy and floods going up to 100 meters high.
Bob, and Gerald’s arch enemy is Professor Bubble. Professor Bubble has robbed over 1,000 banks. He also has the power to turn into hundreds of little bubble which are very dangerous to everyone except Professor Bubble. Professor Bubble can also go through walls which is an advantage to him when he robs banks. Professor bubble also has very sharp gleaming white teeth.

Professor bubble wears a red banded black top hat with a pure gold monocle with a pure silver chain.
Gerald and Bob were out at the mall one day when they saw Professor Bubble stealing a little boy’s toy from him so Bob and Gerald jump into action and snatch the toy off Professor Bubble and then BANG!, CRASH!, THUMP!, Professor bubble has been defeated and put in prison they return the toy to the little boy and he thanks them and now that the Professor Bubble is gone they can relax. For Now!!
